Tesla Roadster

AC Compressor – 1.5 Series

Tesla Roadster 1.5 โ€” High-Voltage A/C Compressorย

Early 1.5-series Roadsters use a dedicated high-voltage electric A/C compressor to provide cabin cooling. This compact compressor is driven directly from the traction pack and is critical to both driver comfort and effective defog/defrost performance. With age, these units can become noisy, lose capacity, or develop insulation faults that disable the A/C system.

The unit offered here is the correct high-voltage A/C compressor for Tesla Roadster 1.5 cars, built around the Sierra variable-speed rotary/scroll platform used in OEM EV applications. It is configured for the Roadsterโ€™s R134a system and high-temp A/C duty, with the proper suction and discharge fittings for a direct bolt-in replacement. Not for 2.0 / 2.5 Roadsters, which use a different compressor configuration.

  • OEM-style compressor โ€” brushless DC, variable-speed A/C compressor as used in EV and hybrid platforms.
  • High-voltage operation โ€” designed for the Roadsterโ€™s traction-pack bus (nominal 150โ€“300ย Vย DC range) for efficient cabin cooling.
  • R134a system compatible โ€” sized and valved for the Roadsterโ€™s factory R134a refrigerant circuit and expansion hardware.
  • Direct 1.5 fitment โ€” correct mounting pattern and #10 suction / #8 discharge style connections for plug-in plumbing and wiring.
  • Ideal remedy โ€” resolves no-cool complaints, excessive compressor noise, or high-voltage isolation faults in 1.5 A/C systems.

Installation (High-Voltage Component):
Replacement requires safe shutdown of the system, recovery of the existing refrigerant charge, removal/installation of the compressor, evacuation, and re-charging of the system to factory spec. We strongly recommend installation by Tesla or an EV-savvy HVAC shop. Always replace the receiver/drier and new O-rings when the system is opened.

TIP

Maintenance Tip:ย Run the A/C periodically (even in cooler weather) to keep oil circulating through the compressor, and keep the front condenser area clear of debris to reduce head pressures and extend compressor life. If you notice new grinding noises or repeated A/C faults, investigate before the unit fully fails.
