Tesla Roadster โ€” PEM Motor Block Upgrade

The factory injection-molded ABS connector block that couples the PEM to the 3-phase AC induction Drive Motor becomes brittle with age. Annual service that involves loosening and re-torquing the 8ย mm motor bolts further
stresses the block and can prevent a solid electrical/mechanical connection.

Why it matters
  • This PEM output port carries high-current, high-voltage power to the Drive Motor that propels the car.
  • Three loose, square captivator nuts sit in pockets within the ABS block; tightening/loosening transfers torque into the plastic.
  • With age and service cycles, the nut pockets crack; in severe cases the block crumbles, compromising the connection.
Our solution
  • Recreated the connector block in High-Voltage Orange using precision 3D printing (OEM mold no longer exists).
  • Machine-shop modification of the PEM Output Motor Drive Control bus bar: we install PEM nuts (self-clinching fasteners) into the copper bus.
  • This relocates tightening forces from aging plastic to the much stronger copper bus bar for durable, repeatable torque and serviceability.
