This is the original HVAC Controller Module found under the hood of the early Tesla Roadster 1.5 series vehicles, VIN 500 and under. Originally manufactured by Eberspächer UK, this critical sub-assembly manages both air conditioning and heating systems — but also plays a vital role in the Roadster’s pre-charge interlock loop.
When this module fails, it can cause serious issues including: complete Roadster shutdowns, BSM error alerts, HV isolation faults, or a refusal to charge. Unfortunately, these units have been out of production for years — and with only ~2,000 Roadsters ever built, the supply of replacements is quickly evaporating. Tesla’s stock is likely depleted or near depletion, and salvaged units from donor cars are rapidly drying up. Even if a used unit is found, it is almost certainly suffering from deferred maintenance or latent defects.
