This genuine-type battery coolant (glycol) temperature sensor clips around the outlet tube of the Roadsterโs battery heat exchanger and monitors coolant temperature as it leaves the pack. The signal is used by the 12 V controller and VMS to regulate pump speed and A/C operation, protecting the ESS from overheating and optimizing charge and discharge performance.
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tesla Part Number | 6003198 โ Sensor, Coolant Temp (Battery Glycol) |
| Application | Tesla Roadster 1.5 & 2.x battery coolant loop |
| Location | Clamps around outlet tube of battery heat exchanger |
| Sensor type | NTC thermistor in sealed clamp housing |
| Connector | Factory-style 2-pin harness plug |
| Typical symptoms when faulty | Coolant pump running excessively, battery cooling faults, ESS over-temp warnings, or related DTCs |
Always de-energize and safely depressurize the Roadster coolant loop before working around the heat exchanger. Inspect the harness for corrosion or broken conductors before installing the new sensor, and verify coolant level and proper pump operation after reassembly.
There is no formal mileage interval, but we recommend proactive inspection or replacement when performing major ESS service, after any isolation-fault event, or whenever cold-weather charging issues are observed.
| Condition | Temperature Range |
|---|---|
| Vehicle operation (powering systems) | โ4 ยฐF to +122 ยฐF (โ20 ยฐC to +50 ยฐC) |
| Battery during charging | 32 ยฐF to 113 ยฐF (0 ยฐC to 45 ยฐC) |
Maintenance Tip:ย Since the sensor depends on contact with the plumbing, and the Sensor is exposed to the elements, thoroughly clean the contact area plumbing before installing a new sensor.
