The Tesla Roadster ESS main battery pack uses a rear-mounted service plug, buried deep in the left rear quarter panel. It’s difficult to reach but absolutely critical when a Roadster is bricked, because removing this plug stops any further current draw from the pack and opens the high-voltage interlock loop (HVIL) for safety.

Maintenance Tip: Wait a minimum of 2 minutes between Service Plug removal and reinsertion. The 2-minute delay lets the BMS and contactors fully drop out and any pre-charge paths de-energize, so when you reinstall the plug, the system is truly “dead” and ready for a clean restart.
