This product is one of those innovations, that allows some additional protection for the type one charge port socket, protecting it from water ingress.

One of the nice features of being a Tesla Roadster owner, is the community that supports it.  Despite the fact that there are only 2000 or so owners left, there has always been a strong culture of support in this community.

Fortunately, some in this tiny group are resourceful innovators, and some have developed cool Roadster aftermarket products and services.  We are fortunate the result of members charting their own way, has created useful gadgets, and that they have generously shared their expertise with the rest of us.

Chris Orndorff is the inventor this little cap.  Here is his feedback about what prompted this neat little item:

“The inspiration came from washing my car, I found if I put a plastic bag with a rubber band over the charge port when I washed my car no water would get inside and throw an error for water in port. I wanted something more permanent. So I made a bunch of prototypes out of PLA until I got the final design that I now print out of a carbon fiber embedded nylon.”
