Installation overview โ€” front sensors (S1โ€“S6)
  1. Set the suspension to Very High and enable Jack Mode. Disconnect 12 V power if you will be removing the front fascia completely.
  2. Remove the front under-tray and the wheel-arch fasteners that secure the fascia to the fender liners.
  3. Remove the upper fascia fasteners along the hood latch area and any lower fasteners to release the front bumper cover.
  4. With a helper, pull the front fascia forward a few inches, support it, and disconnect the fog-lamp / side-marker / sensor harness connectors.
  5. On the back side of the fascia, release the parking sensor retainer tabs and push the sensor out of the bumper opening.
  6. Inspect and replace any cracked retainers, then clip the new sensor into the retainer so the face sits flush and level with the fascia.
  7. Reconnect the harness, reinstall the fascia in reverse order, torque fasteners to spec, and test parking assist.
Installation tutorial โ€” rear outer sensor (S7 / S12)

This summary is based on the Model S Service Manual procedure for the rear outer parking distance sensor.
Always observe high-voltage safety, support the vehicle correctly, and wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Open the LH front door, lower the LH front window, set the air suspension to Very High, then enable Jack Mode.
  2. At the corner where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel (left for S7, right for S12), remove the small screw/fastener securing the fascia to the body.
  3. Apply masking tape along the paint seam between the quarter panel and rear bumper to protect the finish while flexing the fascia.
  4. Gently pull the bumper corner outward just enough to reach the parking sensor and wiring harness behind the fascia. Do not over-flex the bumper.
  5. Release the connector lock and unplug the harness from the parking sensor.
  6. From the back of the fascia, unclip the sensor from the bracket: depress the small retaining tabs around the sensor body and push it out of the retainer ring.
  7. Inspect the retainer ring and bracket. Replace any cracked, warped, or distorted hardware before installing the new sensor.
  8. Fit the new sensor into the retainer ring with the orientation marks aligned, then clip the assembly into the bracket until all tabs are fully engaged.
  9. Reconnect the wiring harness until the connector lock clicks, then reseat the bumper corner and reinstall the screw/fastener.
  10. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side if replacing both S7 and S12. Exit Jack Mode and return the suspension to its normal setting.

After installation, gently pull on the connector to confirm it is latched, make sure the sensor face sits flush with the bumper,
then test the parking-assist system in a safe area by slowly approaching obstacles while monitoring the visual and audible alerts.
