Tesla Model S and X Battery Module โ Repair and Sale
Model S / X โข HV Battery Module โข Component-Level Repair & Sale
Gruber Motors has been recovering and repairing legacy Tesla Model S and Model X high-voltage battery packs since they began to age out of warranty. Many alerts such as BMS_u018 โMaximum battery charge level reducedโ and BMS_u029_dSoc_Limiting are associated with internal state-of-charge imbalance and pathological brick capacity loss in one or more modules โ often driven by weak, resistive, or contaminated cells. Our module-level process focuses on identifying the affected brick(s) and module(s) and addressing the underlying issue through repair, reconditioning, or tested module replacement where appropriate.
Tesla does not sell legacy Model S / X battery modules as service parts. A practical and cost-effective source for usable replacements is properly tested modules from donor packs and totaled vehicles, which we evaluate, match, and offer as ready-to-install components.
What this listing covers
- Single-Module Sale (Model S / X) โ Each module is individually tested, capacity-checked, and verified under load so it is ready to drop into a compatible pack and restore proper operation.
- Included BMB / Sense Board โ The module is shipped with the matching Battery Monitor Board (BMB) / sense electronics. We also offer repair and refurbishment of these boards when faults are detected.
- Recycling of failed module โ If your original module is not repairable, we can process it for proper recycling and controlled materials recovery, keeping damaged cells out of the waste stream.
- In-vehicle pack repair โ For vehicles delivered to our facility, we remove the high-voltage pack, isolate the defective module(s), install tested replacements, and perform post-repair diagnostics and balancing.
Why send your Model S or Model X to Gruber for battery repairs
- Far less expensive than full pack replacement โ The OEM path is typically a pack swap in the $20K+ range, with no component-level repair. Our approach targets the failed module(s) and associated electronics, preserving the rest of the pack.
- Deferred maintenance addressed at the same time โ As many Model S and X vehicles age, other issues surface: suspension wear, 12 V instrumentation battery problems, coolant and HVAC concerns, error codes, alignment, and more. During a battery service visit, we can evaluate and quote these items so they donโt turn into future failures.
- Tesla-level capability with expanded options โ Gruber Motors operates with factory-trained technicians, high-voltage safety infrastructure, and full diagnostic capability, but with additional options such as module-level repair, refurbished components, and customized solutions for out-of-warranty vehicles.
At-a-glance
| Pack composition |
Up to 16 battery modules per pack (variant-dependent) |
| Typical failure symptoms |
Service alerts such as BMS_u018 โMaximum battery charge level reducedโ and/or BMS_u029_dSoc_Limiting, charge level capped well below 100%, noticeable range loss, and in advanced cases contactor-open / vehicle-will-not-drive conditions. |
| When module replacement makes sense |
Isolated weak or resistive cells, localized module faults, or a small number of out-of-spec modules within an otherwise healthy pack |
| Whatโs serviceable |
Resistive cells (isolate and neutralize), sensor and harness issues, many BMB electronics faults, module interconnects and corrosion damage |
| Requirements (in-shop repair) |
Vehicle delivered or transported to our facility; high-voltage pack removal; diagnostic scan and pre-repair evaluation; post-repair verification and balancing |
| Requirements (module sale only) |
Compatible Model S / X pack, professional installation recommended, and appropriate high-voltage safety procedures at the receiving shop |
Deferred maintenance we can address during the visit
