This rare Roadster is a Tesla Validation Prototype. Very few of these were released for sale. A validation prototype vehicle is part of late stage product testing, when a manufacturer tests the consumer’s response to the product.
This Roadster is one of a very limited quantity, estimated around 35 with 10-15 still in circulation which makes this Roadster is a collector’s dream.
These VP Roadsters were not intended for sale to owners.
The original buyer connected with the Director of Tesla’s CPO program at the time. When he mentioned he was looking for an early Signature 100 Roadster, he was introduced to VP30. Tesla was cash strapped and they were selling everything to keep the Model S program alive.
Recognizing this type of purchase, may have future collectible interest, he quickly placed a deposit for VP30.
A short while later, Tesla tried to back out of the sale, but since they had the deposit, they honored the sale and VP30 became his. VPs were never supposed to be sold and to our knowledge less than 5 made it to the public, less than 35 appear to have been built, and after crash testing and decommissioning, we suspect only 10-15 survive today.
The current seller had it shipped to the US, and began enjoying the Roadster.
Meticulously maintained, this Roadster has kept a higher than usual charge at 180 miles (at 85% charge).
