Owner’s Backstory
Every Roadster has a story with it. Here is what the owner shared:
My previous car was a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder VR4, and in the mid-2000s I was ready for a replacement. I considered a Mercedes SL500, but really did not want to buy another gas-guzzler and was looking for something more eco-friendly.
When I heard about the Tesla Roadster, it ticked all the boxes. I just missed the Signature series, the first 100 Roadsters, but went for the next round and got VIN 108.
I waited two and a half years for the car and took delivery from the Santa Monica showroom in December 2008. The car became my daily driver for almost four years, until I upgraded to Model S Signature #00061.
I believe my Roadster may have been the very first EV to make the trip down Highway 1 from Big Sur to Cambria in October 2009.
I kept the Roadster garaged and in excellent condition until 2022, when it went to Gruber Motor Company for work on various components and upgrades. I am only selling now because my current family life makes it impractical to keep, but I have loved every moment of ownership.
Our Take
This Roadster has just completed a full
PEM rebuild and upgrade, replacing wear components and resolving known engineering issues. A complete thermal management upgrade was also performed, including PEM fan replacement and ESS coolant pump replacement.
The deteriorating ABS plastic cooling fan plenum mount assembly was replaced and upgraded to carbon fiber. All four TPMS sensors were replaced, the stock lug nuts were replaced with fresh zinc-plated sets, and the locking lug nut was retired.
The rear trunk lift struts were replaced. The stock headlights were rebuilt and converted to LED. Open Vehicle Management System, or OVMS, was installed. The interior of the hard top was reupholstered, and aged paint protection film was removed.
The stock brakes were replaced with the performance Titanium Dave brake package by Executive Motorwerkz in Los Angeles. The motor and transmission were both replaced with remanufactured components, with the gearbox by Medlock and the motor by Executive Motorwerkz.
Being at Gruber Motor Company, this Roadster benefited from a number of additional upgrades and deferred maintenance items being resolved. At the asking price, this makes the car an outstanding bargain for someone looking for a well-sorted early Tesla Roadster.
