The Tesla Roadster came to Gruber Motor Company for a complete deferred maintenance upgrade, including a Level 2 Power Electronics Module rebuild. The PEM rebuild addressed known engineering issues and replaced wear components such as contactors, electrolytic capacitors, relays, and related components. External common wear components such as pumps and cooling fans were also addressed. No performance upgrades or deviations from OEM specifications were performed, preserving the Roadster as close to original as possible. The Model S was thoroughly reviewed at a Tesla Service Center and again by Gruber Motor Company after arriving at our facility.

Imperfections That Add to the Story

Both vehicles carry small imperfections that enhance their collectability and help tell the story of Tesla’s early production years. On the Founders VIN #3 Roadster, one of the three front hood vanes has carbon fiber weave showing through the paint. Early Tesla vehicles often had these types of imperfections, and while easily repairable, they serve as artifacts of Tesla’s limited early production resources. On the Founders VIN #3 Model S, the owner notes that panel gaps were present from early production. When the owner pointed out the gap imperfections, Tesla reportedly explained that they had not yet fully refined body panel alignment.
