Vehicle Specifics

In the world of collecting, the most sought after items are typically the rarest. These two Tesla vehicles, sold as a pair, are the ultimate collectible worthy candidates for a number of reasons:

Rarity

The Tesla Roadster is a Founders Series car. Roadsters have been heading collectible for a few years now.  Elon’s second Roadster, VIN 686, is in outer space. Founders series Tesla’s were reserved for VIPs, even before the limited edition Signature editions were released (100 in the USA, and 250 in Europe) This Roadsters nearest siblings are: Elon Musk’s Founders Series Roadster VIN #1 Martin Eberhard’s Founders Series VIN #2 And then this one – Founders Series VIN #3 The Model S being sold along with the Founders Roadster, is also a Founders Series car, and VIN #3 Not just anyone could land a Founders Series Tesla. This series of very limited edition cars were reserved for key executives, family, or major investors. Both of these cars are original owner cars, purchased by an owner eligible for highly coveted Tesla cars, who had the foresight land two matching VIN Founders cars, 14 years apart, in as near as possible matching colors, Roadster Radiant Red, and Tesla Model S Signature Red.

Recent Service

The Tesla Roadster came to us for a complete deferred maintenance upgrade including a complete Level 2 Power Electronics Module (PEM) rebuild resolving all engineering problems, replacing all wear components such as contactors, electrolytic capacitors, relays, and replacement of external common wear components such as pumps and cooling fans. No performance  upgrades and deviations from OEM specs were done, leaving the cars as original as possible. The Model S, was thoroughly reviewed at a Tesla Service Center, and by Gruber Motor Company once it arrived at our shop.

Imperfections

There are imperfections that enhance the collectability in both the vehicles. Founders VIN #3 Roadster – One of the three front hood vanes has carbon fiber weave showing through the paint. Early cars often had these types of imperfections, and although easily repaired, we agree with the owner that imperfections like this, that confirm the limited resources Tesla had available, are an artifact that adds to the uniqueness of these vehicles. (See images of the Roadster hood) Founders VIN #3 Model S – Panel gaps plagued early releases of the Model S. The owner shared with us he pointed out these gap imperfections, and was told by Tesla, they had not figured out how to align the body panels to eliminate noticeable gaps. The car remains with slightly misaligned gaps as a result.
