We are always honored when an esteemed roadster class like this first Final Five shows up at our Service Center.  We will be servicing the ESS Main Battery and performing some deferred maintenance upgrades to this very special car.

This Elon-autographed VIN 1460 was the first of the “Final Five” run and after this one, came four more special-paint Roadsters with carbon-fiber plaques.

Tesla later kept selling remaining Roadsters outside North America in 2012. So the North American “Final Five” story and the “last Roadster ever built/sold” story overlap, but they are not exactly the same thing.

What made those end-of-run US Roadsters special was mostly provenance and end-of-run trim, not extra mechanical output. The Final Edition cars kept standard 2011 Roadster performance, but got exclusive paint, dark silver stripes front and rear, and anthracite aluminum wheels. By that point, the car was already in the later Roadster 2.5 phase, which had added the new front fascia and rear diffuser, better seats, more sound reduction, hot-climate power-control hardware, and an optional 7-inch touchscreen with backup camera.

Legend has it these last run US Roadsters did not fly off the shelf. Tesla had some difficulty selling these special Roadsters back then. But back then Tesla was still a tiny company trying to sell a six-figure EV in a weak economy, with limited financing, looming regulatory and supplier constraints, and buyer attention already starting to shift toward the upcoming Model S.

Today, any of these 5 unique end of run Roadsters are considered holy grail.
